Atom String Quartet, founded in 2010 in Warsaw, comprises violinists Dawid Lubowicz and Mateusz Smoczyński, violist Michał Zaborski and cellist Krzysztof Lenczowski. They are all graduates of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. The ensemble is one of the most intriguing string quartets in the world and one of the best jazz bands in Poland. It also has a well-established position on the international music scene and regularly performs at the world’s major jazz festivals. However, the artists do not confine themselves to this particular music genre. They draw inspiration from Polish folk, music of various regions of the world as well as contemporary and classical music.
The group has recorded four original records, including the album Seifert released in 2017, containing compositions of the renowned Polish jazz violinist Zbigniew Seifert interpreted by the quartet’s musicians.
It is the work of this composer that the Chinese audience in Beijing and Wuhan will have a chance to listen to. The concert programme will also include pieces by Krzysztof Penderecki and the band’s own compositions.
Prior to performing in Beijing and Wuhan, Atom String Quartet will also appear on stage in Shanghai. The group will be one of the performers at the concert of music from Polish video games titled Polish Games – Creative Poland organised by the Polish Institute in Beijing in collaboration with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, which will be held on 9th December at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center.
